Default Stripes

Couldn't help but notice the amazing geometry in these fields (along with the stream/canal). Beautiful early morning light too. So I decided to try something totally different from what I usually shoot:

fieldstripes

So....critique. Let me have it, and don't pull any punches. I may be a beginner, but my ego can take it.

Canon EOS 550D
Sigma 17-70mm / 2.8-4.0 DC OS Macro
f/7.1, 1/125th
58 mm focal length
ISO 200

This is a fine shot. The color is bright and the focus is good. Personally, I would prefer a different angle. I'm not a huge fan of these angled shots. I have done a couple myself but I feel it takes the right subject to pull it off.

Yes, I'm not too sure about the angle myself. This was actually my first attempt at 'dutch angle' shooting. The very strict horizontal lines make the scene extremely simple when they're not shot at an angle, and the lack of something central breaking that pattern makes it a bit boring, I find.
Thanks for the response though. As a total newb, having someone confirm you suspicion about a shot is helpful.

Looks good in terms of colour and the nice lines etc., but yeah I'd prefer to see these lines in portrait I think.

In portrait? Do you mean tilted 90°? I never even thought of that.

I meant in portrait but with the lines horizontal across the frame rather than at an angle. I don't think the angle adds to the photo.
