Default Waterfall shot in Bushkill, PA

Camera: Canon T2i
Lens - 18-55mm IS

Could I have used better lighting? or angles? Looking for some helpful critique.

I am trying with varying degree's of success to photograph water; out of interest what shutter speed did you use and could you have slowed it down a little more?

Good shot tho.

I think the comp looks pretty good. You might try adding a bit more to the top to see if that adds some interest. One thing that does stand out is the image appears a bit slanted. Maybe try to rotate the image so the bottom of the waterfall is level.

You appear to have got some good motion using your shutter speed. Could you post your EXIF data so we know what you used and could help there if needed?

As for the lighting...the best lighting for forest/waterfall shots like this (with no sky in the photo) is available on cloudy days. The clouds actually act as a soft box and diffuse the light making the colors more vibrant. Also, if you could shoot right after a rain and use a polarizer, it will make the colors pop even more.

Hope that helps!

Hi! The best shutter speed to get good motion is a minimum of 1 second. This is usually best achieved using a neutral density filter versus just making your aperture as small as it will go (which is what we all naturally try to do when starting out). This filter will darken the image without affecting image quality. The camera will have to slow down to get a good exposure as it will think it's darker than it really is. They are available in different intensities and there are even a couple variable ones out there.

Hope that helps!
