Good morning all.

Im not a great fan of PP ( as i suck at it) all i have done to this is reduce the size to post it.
What would be great is some feed back on the composition as i am new to all this and still shoot in auto.

Hello Bliksim,

I think it's a nice try! The subject is well illuminated and sharp. What I think you can do is to change your background, it distracts me a little bit, but that's just my opinion =P
You can try to get closer to your subject (kind of macro shot) or change the angle of your shot. Hope this helps you.

Regards!

I also found the background a bit distracting, but I'm guessing you were trying to show the flower against the junked metal in the background. Maybe with a different angle you could eliminate that dark piece of the background that is immediately behind the flower. I found that the most distracting. Otherwise, I really like the theme of plant life in the midst of rubble. Have fun!

I totally understand what you were going for. I love beauty among urban junk. However I agree with what has been said. Because the flower is so small I think it needs to be more the focus of the photo. This could probably be done in several different ways but two ideas would be to move closer to the flower so that it is the larger object in the photo. Or changing your DOF so the flower is nice and crisp and the junk in the back is a little more blurry. You would still get the hard junky background but it would help your subject to stand out more. I love the photo though and think you had a great idea.

I agree with everyone else. The concept is great, but the focal point of your composition is getting a little lost in all the man made geometry.

When approaching a subject such as this one, it is always good to take a series of captures from a variety of angles. Then at your leisure and comfort you can decide what best works for your vision.

Aside from the general composition, I would have taken some bracketed exposure shots so I would have a better range to work with at the monitor. I'm not really suggesting the full-blown HDR treatment, but just giving yourself as much flexibility as possible once you have walked away from the scenery.
