Michael, thanks for the comments. The left spotlight was simply brighter/hotter than the other one, I tried the shot from the left to try to minimize its impact. Could I have done anything to the camera settings that would have reduced the "blowout" further?
As for the angle, I actually returned to that spot last night and think I might be able to get a little further to the left and reduce or eliminate the roofline. We'll see what turns out when I bring the camera out again. |

To tell ya the truth, I’m an old film guy that put my camera on the shelf many years ago when career, wife and a succession of children entered the new picture. Now that those kids are grown and gone I have renewed my interest in photography, digital photography in particular. However, I am still fumbling around trying to figure out what does what in this new digital age. I know what I want to happen, but still struggling to get there.
My guess would be to under-expose the shot and selectively tweak the capture with photo editing software. Going beyond that would require some additional lighting, or maybe a reflector that could better distribute the light across the scene. Funny thing about your background, the roofline is a little distracting but the chimneys could potentially add some structural interest to the overall scene. Experiment! Experiment! Experiment! |
