Default Blue Independence Day

I took this in Milwaukee, WI on July 4th. Do you think the blue is to overwhelming? This was my first experience using a polarizer filter. Taken with a Nikon D5000 with a 18-55 lens. .

Hi bldhnzgng,

Wow! What a striking image! I really like this. It looks like something right out of a sci-fi movie. I especially love the people walking along the path. They really help to show scale and context for the location. Oh and did I mention the graphics? I love the wonderful lines and balance. This is a fantastic image! I am so jealous. It makes me want to get on a plane...

Thus is such a great image that I don't really have any suggestions for improvement. One very small, minor thing.... It looks to me like you used a polarizer filter to get the deep color in the sky (which is great) but I think that it made the water on the lake too dark. The water looks black. It took me a little while to realize that those were boats. If I had taken this image, I think I would have tried go dial in the filter a little less to try to keep some color in the water.

Again, that is a really minor criticism. Very well done and congrats on a great image!

KG

I did use a polarizer filter, and I'm pretty sure I had it cranked up. However, the water in Lake Michigan is generally dark, if not mucky and cloudy. I could mess with the water in particular to brighten it up, but I don't want it to look un-natural. Thanks for the critique though, it's always hard to tell if your own shots are really worth anything.
