Default Exposure - Critique

I would love some comments on the exposure level of this picture. If I try and improve the detail in the landscape the colours in the sky lose impact. Is it too dark? Should I try alternative settings in future?

This is one of those images where the 'landscape' serves as sihouette for the drama taking place in the sky and its refection. For that reason I don't think it is important to have a lot of detail in the darks, though it is nice that there are some significant details.

Your exposure is very close to perfect in a rather difficult situation. I would encourage you to look at some of the software available for bringing out the best in this image. I ran it through mine and was able to enhance the colors dramatically without losing detail in the shadows. GIMP is free and does an excellent job, but there are many others that may be easier for a beginner.

Hi numpty,

Great image. I love this kind of shot and yours is a good one.

I agree with LeeR (I usually do) that you don't need detail in the land and that the exposure is fine. If anything, I think it might look a little better if it were darker. To me, the best part of the image is the sky and if I had made the image, I would have exposed for the hotspot in the sky.

Great image.

I agree with the previous posts. I find the lights on the horizon distracting, but a little PS could help that.

I like how the long exposure has smoothed out the water. great shot.

Default Nice Shot!

I think the photo is a great representation of a beautiful sunset with all the colors. There is just enough detail in the foreground shadows so that it does not look like a big black blob. Again nice shot!
