Default "Route 66"

Took this mid day with washed out skies. I have converted to B&W in PSE 8, but still seems to lack 'pop'. Suggestions on composition and PP tech appreciated.

Great idea. I would love to be able to get to "66" to get some shots someday.

Couple of comments, fwiw...

1. The bottom right portion of the sign is cut off.
2. The back is washed out, as you stated.
3. LeeR did a tutorial on "Levels" in the tutorial section. I think if you worked with the levels a little, you could add some "pop."

(an extra, at no charge)
I just finished reading a tutorial in the tutorial section about giving your photos the aged look. This might look awesome with something like that added to it.

Nice composition, and take my comments for what they are worth..

How did you convert to B&W? Did you simply just change it to gray scale to remove the colors? One thing I do when converting to black and white is adjust each separate RGB channel in the black and white section. This one might look good with the sky a little darker and that can be done by decreasing the blue slider, however, it will aslo affect your sign if it was blue or had any blue to it as well. The point to take away is don't just click the convert to grayscale button but actually go in and manually change each individual R G B channel.
