Default Waterfall at Slow-Shutter Speed

Hello guys,

I have a shot to share with you. I'd like to know your opinion on the exposure, and the composition of this picture. I had my camera rested on a fence and tried to steady it as best as I could, haha. Tell me what you think!

EXIF:
Nikon D3000
F-stop: f/32
Exposure time: 4 sec.
ISO: ISO-200
Exposure bias: 0 step
Focal length: 70mm
Flash mode: No flash

A lovely shot. I like the long exposure.

Theres enough of the bridge in background to be distracting but not enough to add the the story. I would crop the current photo so that it excludes the bridge or take it again from a position to the left of where you took this ones from.

In GIMP I ran the Unsharp mask over it with settings of:
Radius: 1.5
Amount: 0.5
Threshold: 0

Default Waterfall

I love the waterfall itself but agree that the bridge is a bit distracting. Either more bridge or less bridge but the effect of the long exposure is great!

Default If you insist...

OK, you've shamed/bullied me into giving you my comments after I "looked and left" before...

I'm guessing that, like me, others will have seen your shot and thought it was technically OK but in terms of subject, uninspiring to say the least. It's a waterfall in the sense there's some water falling but Niagra it's not. It's not the kind of picture I'd want to hang on my wall but if it pleases you, that's what's most important.

I guess you could use this waterfall for some more interesting pictures but I'd personally look for something different, whether that's a more impressive waterfall or a different subject entirely.

Hope this is useful.

Thank you guys for your comments! Even though I may have "bullied" you guys into them, as Yorkie said. Haha!

I also agree with the comments about the bridge. I wasn't using a tripod for this shot, and I was unable to get it out of the frame because I was holding it on a fence, haha. It would look much nicer without the bridge, or more of it. I will try some cropping to see if it turns out nice.

Thank you again!

I agree with the comments here...composition is a bit uninspiring. But at the very least it's good practice for water motion. That part you did quite well even if you had to use a very small aperture. The best method is to use an ND filter which will allow you to get longer exposures without having to resort to "pinhole" aperture settings.

That said, you might still salvage your shot a bit by cropping to something with a bit more interesting to the eye. Here is a quick crop I did which might enhance things a bit. It's not perfect but it might be a bit more interesting as it tries to portray a more layered effect coupled with a bit of "rule of thirds" placement along with some horizontal movement to keep your eye moving through the shot...
