Default Finding the interest in a building..

Hi, I went out to shoot a favourite building of mine today, a vast brick built 1930's art deco cinema. I was trying to be mindful of the composition and so I came back with a handful of shots which I felt happy with. The question is, does my treatment of the subject with the post processing make it a 'good' photo or not?

State of the Tower

Camera: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT
Exposure: 0.022 sec (1/45)
Aperture: f/13.0
Focal Length: 18 mm
ISO Speed: 100
Exposure Bias: 0 EV

There's some more of the subject including a 'standard' shot of it in the set if it'd help give more of a feel of the subject.

Flame away :-)

In photography, as in other arts, the difference between a real craftsman and an amatuer is finesse. That is, they are both doing the same things in general, but the pro is doing is making subtle refinements along the way that make it infinitely better. With that in mind, I would say this image is a bit heavy handed. For one thing it is strictly symmetrical, and as much as we think symmetry would be a good thing in photography, it usually isn't...with exceptions. I also think some of the other treatments are a bit over the top; the sepia effect and the selective blur. Truth is, I like the other shot you did of this building better. It is taken at an angle that is more interesting and lacks the overprocessing. It could use a levels adjustment, but overall, it's a good shot.
