I'm relatively new to photography but found this website recently and love it I thought I'd post a photo to get some helpful critiques. I signed up far a photography class a couple weeks ago and this is a photo I took during one of our classes. I'm still working on getting exposure right so I'd definitely welcome any comments about the exposure as well as the composition. This one was taken with a point and shoot in manual mode and here is the EXIF information:

Camera: Canon PowerShot A570 IS
Exposure: 0.01 sec (1/100)
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length: 16 mm
ISO Speed: 80

I feel this shot is very much under exposed. The pole on the left is also distracting. I am not an expert but I am of the opinion that while taking shot we should always think why I am taking this shot. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the feedback! I was taking the shot because I liked the story it seemed to tell of tourists so tired that they were lying on the bench in front of the monument but still engaged enough to stay there. I agree with you about the pole. Unfortunately, there are flagpoles encircling the area so I wasn't able to find a vantage point without a pole getting in the way I'll definitely keep that in mind as well as the underexposure.
