Default Fox River

I am fairly new to DSLR photography. Please provide critques about anything you find could be useful for me.

This is Fox river in Green Bay, WI USA. I took this shot at 7:50pm.

I assume that is not the original color of the photo? Did you do any post work? A suggestion is to shoot on a tripod or steady surface when there is low light. This way you may reduce your ISO which is extremely high for this photo, in turn making your image higher quality with less grain. I think this is a good composition, I like how you included the tree in the foreground making the photo contain both background and foreground elements. Nice job in that regard!

I'm not an expert but I do find the colour of this rather off-putting -- I'm right with JMarro here. Would a black-and-white conversion have worked instead? Just my 2p-worth...

Thanks to both of you for your critiques. As mentioned this is straight out of the camera. I was using cloudy as the white balance. This is not the original color of the scene at that point of time. However, I really liked how it came. I wasn't carrying any tripod that time, but JMarro is right, with tripod the ISO could have been lesser. I didn't think of turning into B/W. Sounds like a good idea. I will surely try that.
