Very interested in this kind of photography, this was my first real attempt at a dusk shot, any advice / critique would be welcome.
Specifically, I don't know if it's better to use a longer exposure time or an aperture setting that would take in more light. If either makes a dramatic difference I couldn't tell, maybe my eyes are not yet be trained to see it? When I was playing with exposure vs. aperture they seemed to come out roughly the same. Thanks in advance! This was my favorite shot: Yokohama at Dusk on Flickr - Photo Sharing! Camera: Canon SX20is Lens: 5.0-100.0 mm ISO: 80 Focal Length: 5.2mm Aperture: f/8 Shutter Speed: 8.0 sec The other two I took of the same basic skyline are here: Full Minato Mirai 21 Skyline on Flickr - Photo Sharing! and here: Yokohama as seen from the Osanbashi Pier on Flickr - Photo Sharing! |

Nice photo, you would want to keep an aperture of around f8 and higher number/smaller aperture for these types of shots. Long exposure would work well on the ferris wheel.
Also the photo was worth posting but you may find a lot of people do not like leaving one website to view the picture on another. With flickr you are better of linking to the photo with the img button above where you are typing the message in, little yellow square with mountains on it.

Thank you for both replies. Did not notice that little box allowed me to link from another site, guess I just assumed it would be hosted here; thought I might save the admin's some bandwidth. Thank you for going to the trouble for me.
I did my best to level it but because my $25 tripod could not quite make it over the railing, I had to do some creative positioning between two bars in the gate with one of the legs resting on a book I held down. I must have looked absolutely ridiculous next to all of the other people with real equipment there, but was pretty happy with the outcome. |
