Default Anzac Bridge - first long exposure

This pic hasn't been processed as yet, just converted from raw and resized. I would like constructive criticism on the shot and how I could have made it better.

Camera: Canon EOS 550D
Exposure: 30
Aperture: f/14.0
Focal Length: 20 mm
ISO Speed: 200
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Off, Did not fire
Lens Model: EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS
Tripod used & manual focus

Thanks, elyshiamadison

I really like the reflection on the water. Ironically, though, I think there seems to be too much water here. The top of the bridge seems too close to the top of the frame. I would crop out some of the water, but that also means cropping out some of that cool reflection!

Or, try this shot again with less water and more sky in the original photo so you wouldn't have to do much cropping later.

That's my two cents! :-)

My favorite thing about this shot is that you got the star-shaped lights. It might just be personal preference, but I don't care for mushy, soft lights from a big aperture.

Other than that, I have to say that the photo doesn't totally strike me. All of the components could be quite dramatic, but there is a little something missing.

I am no expert... but the sky drags my eye away from the detail... I think I would like to see you crop in using the reflection and most of the bridge with the city but cutting out some of the water and a lot of the sky

Thanks for your comments

I went through the other photo's taken that night and found this one - which might be more along the lines of what your all saying - less sky & water...

The tricky thing about this bridge is, it's quite tall in comparison to the rest of the city buildings. So in order to lose more sky - I'd lose the detail in the top of the bridge support... might try another angle next time, or a slightly different location.

With the star shaped lights, whats the trick with getting them to look softer? I like the starry lights, but just so I know how to achieve that look is it shorter exposure or a different aperture?

I really appreciate the feedback.

while i like the subject there are a number of things here that i find quite distracting, the image i snot level and personally i think if you removed the tips of the tress from the top of the image and the handrails of a small bridge that is on the right on the image it would allow focus on the subject. i find they are distracting. The colours are great and the star shaped light effects adds to the image. i suggest that the colours on the water underthe bridge pylon and the lower part of the bridge pylon are over exposed
