I usually use a small aperture for landscape and f 4.5 seems to be so wide. Do you have shots when the sun was almost covered by the tress with only the sunrays through the silhouette.

Hi glizzy,

Wow! Nice image! And congratulations on the third place finish. It sounds like you had a great day. Your wife placed and you got a great image!

I don't have anything to say about the exposure. I think you did a good job. The area around the sun is blown out, but you managed to keep good detail in the foreground. If you lowered the exposure to get more detail in the clouds around the sun, you would have lost detail in the field. I like it just as it is.

About the composition: overall I think you did a good job. But if I made the image, I think that I would have moved the horizon line higher in the frame. Right now it is slightly below half way showing more sky. The sky in the top part of the frame is kind of flat and not so interesting, but the grass & dirt and people & horses in the field are quite interesting. I'd show more of them. Having said that, the gates or fences on the left side are a distraction, mostly because I can't tell what they are. I would have tried to find a way to exclude them or find a way to include them so that they are an important part of the image.

Anyway, congratulations again. Well done.

KG

Nice! I love that the sun is not directly in the center. I suggest cropping out whatever is in the bottom left corner, its a little distracting. It definitely is composed beautifully, though.
