Default Peggy's Cove

I really like the clouds but I think I was too distracted by the clouds to actually think straight. I know if i were to do this shot again I would defiantly pay better attention to my settings... oops. Is this too boring with the lighthouse front and center? I don't know anything about photoshop is there something I could do to make this better? Any other C&C welcome, feel free to play around with it and show me your results.

Camera: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS
Exposure: 1/4000 sec
Aperture: f/1.4
Focal Length: 50 mm
ISO Speed: 200
Exposure Program: Aperture-priority AE

I really like this picture! Bravo! I'm new to Photoshop too so I am sorry I can't be of any help there....

I love the contrast between the bold, structural lighthouse and the sweeping softness of the sky. The solid rock in the foreground provides just enough to balance the expanse of the sky too. It nicely frames the man-made structure of the lighthouse with the natural surrounding of the sky and rock. Your perspective is great too . . . the angle is upward versus straight-on. I think that definitely adds to this image.

I see you had a narrow apperature - may I ask how you set up your camera? Did you hand hold it or did you set it up on a tripod? How close was the rocky area in the foreground from you and from the lighthouse? What time of day was this photo taken?

Love it! Thanks for sharing....

Robin

Thanks,
I took this shot just before sunset handheld. I have no idea how close I was, I had my 50mm on so pretty close. I was sitting on the ground just below the rocks you see in the picture to get the whole lighthouse in.

As for my settings... thats where I got distracted. I was so excited that there were no people in the shot i just changed the WB and shot... It wasn't very bright out but it wasn't dark enough to warrant the 1.4 aperture... If I was thinking straight I would have put ISO back to 100 and the aperture somewhere in the middle. I do have other shots similar to this but the clouds are not as nice as this.

Thanks for taking time to comment
