Default noise and tone in this sunrise picture.

Hi,

Saigon train station.

Camera: Pentax K10D
Exposure: 0.25 sec (1/4)
Aperture: f/11.0
Focal Length: 35 mm
ISO Speed: 100
Exposure Bias: +1 EV

I put ISO at 100 but see some noise in the picture. How could it be?
You can see the larger picture on my Flickr: Flickr: NhÃ*m ướt's Photostream

I retouched it with iPhoto 9, put denoise to the highest, and reduce the EV - 1/3, very little higher contrast and saturation.

Thanks.

If you used too much sharpening, you may have sharpened the noise too.

Did you de-noise before or after sharpening?

Also, you can scan it through the noise filter a few times if you save the raw to tiff then put it back in. Be careful though as you lose definition too.

F11 is probably too stopped down especially since it's pretty obvious this image has hand held. If you did use a tripod be sure to use a shutter release cable or at least the time as to not shake the tripod, you may also need to get a better tripod for your camera if you did infact use one here. I'm really not seeing much noise in the image, but I do see a lot of blurriness. This is because of your aperture and ISO selection. At 1/4 of a second you need to be using a tripod for an image like this. If you want to handle hold a shot like this open your aperture up to to something like F3.5 and use a higher ISO to maintain a shutter speed fast enough to handle hold. This setting will depend on your focal length and if your camera has image stabilization but you something like 1/60th of a second or faster should be a good starting point.

The tree in on the left of the frame also distracts form the image. I would have tried to compose the image to remove this tree or at least minimize it so you can crop it out with out loosing much of the image.

Thank you, Murtasma and hey joni for your replies.

Yeaps, I'm sure need a better tripod and yeah, I might just stop f down to about 5.6 or 8 instead of 11. I hate the blur in this picture alot but it might not be rescued by pp because too much blur.

Thanks for your comments.
