Default View from below the stilts

Visited a restaurant in China recently, the restaurant is quite small but it is built entirely out of bamboos above a small pond. Took a few shots of this place.

What do you guys think of the composition?
Do you guys think that viewpoint/perspective of this shot is effective?
Is the high contrast B&W working?
Any good suggestions on how I can remove the distracting modern buildings in the background?

Exif data:
Camera: Canon EOS 40D
Exposure: 0.1 sec (1/10)
Aperture: f/10.0
Focal Length: 24 mm
ISO Speed: 800
Exposure Bias: +1/3 EV
Flash: Off, Did not fire

Thank you for looking!
Any other addition comments/feedback is appreciated!

I love the composition and the high contrast black and white. The decking on the right draws your eye right to the little hut. If anything could be changed, I'd simply blur the more modern buildings in the background.

Thanks for your great feedback.

The modern buildings in the background is quite distracting, any good suggestions on how I can make it less obvious?

Good one - nice use of the tones. I might have gone with a wide angle lens ~15mm or so, but well executed - the blacks, whites and greys have been very well done.

I could have done the edges a bit cleaner, but this was my quick take on it.

Actually i would not make any changes. The buildings in the background show the old and the new China. took a picture in the Old Slave Market in Charleston, South Carolina one time and framed a car through the columns. You could see the 150 year old brick and a modern day car in the background. Keep up the good work.
