Default Sunkissed Paddocks

Sunkissed Paddock

Hello Fellow DPSers

I was wondering if you'd take a look at my settings for this photo and advise on improving my choices with regards to exposure.

Appreciated
Liz

Hi Liz (Snoopy Tunes),

Wow! This is an amazing image! Wonderful!

From the EXIF data on Flickr your exposure was: Tv: 1/1250, Av: f/5.6, ISO: 400. Is that right?

In terms of exposure I think you nailed it. If you lowered the shutter speed (and kept the same aperture) you could have gotten more detail in the dark parts of the foreground, but that would start to blow out the sun and the rays of light, which are the most important thing in this image. If you shot in RAW, then you could use the shadow slider in Canon Digital Professional to bring in some detail in the dark parts, but I don't think you need to. I love this image just the way it is.

Well done! I really, really like this.

KG

Thanks KG
I am just starting to get my head around exposure and stepping away from what my camera recommends and its automatic settings. This image made the light meter scream for mercy as I underexposed by 2 stops. It was shot RAW and I did play a bit with the shadows in DPP but reverted to 0 cos I felt the detail distracted attention from the light rays. I guess I was just looking for confirmation that exposure is a matter of what is important in the image particular one with such wide tonal ranges. Thanks again.
Liz

It is a cracking image as is. Well taken. The rays of low sun throught that mist look fab. Great shot.

I like your shot...Dont mind the dark spot as it amplified the rays of the sun...Like it as is to my opinion.
