Default War Memorial- crumbling Red brick facade

Hello all,

my first critique request.

Please if anyone has any ideas on how to make this photo more interesting?

Note it's shot in RAW so could be tweaked that way..... but also the whole wall was quite interesting so if you think I should include more in the shot then I've got another shot showing much more of the wall also on my flickr so you can see the context of the above wall section shot there (more detail below) and then decide if my critique shot was a good choice; or if not what I could do better?

Memorial wall_001

EXIF basics:
* Camera- Nikon D90
* Date taken 24/4/2010
* Shutter speed 1/20
* Aperture f25.0
* ISO - 200
* Lens used - Nikkor 18-105mm
Focal Length In35mm Format: 60 mm
* Whether or not a flash was used - NO

The name of the photo that shows more is memorial wall 002 and My flickr Flickr: Inconceivably's Photostream

thanks to all

I think you should include more of the wall in the picture.

You could have an interesting composition if you got closer to the wall with wide angle and shot with the camera aimed up at at angle. So, keep the crumbling part at the foreground but place the rest of it (the top part) also in the frame.

Shooting from outside that gate could also be interesting...

I suppose it is a little flat from shooting it straight on......a longer shot of the wall would probably tell the story better

I might have gone for an emphasis of the geometry of the bricks (compared to the crumbling plaster). To do so, I'd have tried to compose straight on, so that the lines were all very symmetric. That's my initial thought here, but then again, I prefer geometric compositions. It's a fascinating subject -- keep at it!

Thanks all for the feedback. Just for the sake of context this memorial wall is enclosed by a fence and I shot through the fence rails to get my composition which restricts some of the recomposing plans. (anyone interested in whole scene check my flickr)

Regarding including more of the scene; I'll probably have to post my best of the whole wall separately for critique as the placement of the plaques and the brick crumbling make it look a little like a face and I don't like it one bit hence my cropping it all out! ( I spent an hour on the train today trying to find a way to make the scene work; sadly I don't think I cracked it....)

I appreciate the thoughts; I'll return and shoot the scene again next chance I get and see if any of your ideas bear fruit.

Cheers

If you weren't resticted by the fence, I would like to see a closer, wide angle shot with the camera lower to the ground and straight on to the wall (so the lines in the tiles would be straight).
