I think it is a nice image. I like the colors and lighting, but it is too sharp. The trees look too crispy. Tossing a rock in an advantageous place may add some spice to the water as well.

But love the colors of this photo.

I'd agree with all the above statements, and I'll third the "nice colors" comment. I'll second the crispy trees comment. It also seems like there are some compression artifacts in the image, so maybe the crispy look is due to the compression?
The composition seems good as it looks to be following the rule of thirds.

The big issue I see here is I don't really see a definitive subject. Are you taking a picture of the trees, the water, that scragly bush on the botton right?

Thank you for taking the time to offer your critique. your thoughts are appreciated.
when it comes to a subject in landscape I get a little lost how do you emphasize a single subject in a landscape? forgive me if this seems to be a noob-ish question.but please do explain...thanks again

p.s. forums are my main source for imformation..so help is dearly welcomed

I wish I could of responded earlier but I was out of town. As far as your question about subjects in landscape shots:

I feel that very few landscape shots can survive on their own. Sometimes nature brings out a subject by itself. i.e. a snowy mountain or some animal. I browsed your photostream on Flickr and I feel that this photo has a difinitive subject:
Outrigger on Flickr - Photo Sharing!
The kayakers are definitely the subject. Here is another one your photos where I feel the landscape presents a subject by itself:
Haleakala Crater on Flickr - Photo Sharing!
Nature presented a subject (the crater) for you, and you happened to catch it at a lovely moment with the clouds.

As far as your photo in this post I would maybe try to find a nice tree somewhere that you could focus on. If there is wildlife in this area you could also try catching one hanging out in the water. The backdrop for the photo is already in place, you just need to find a solid subject.

Good luck!
