Default Critique My Shot Please

I own a Cannon 500D, but this shot was taken on a G9. I think it captured a cool perspective, and the fall colors before a rain seem to create a mood.

I shot this on JPG L fine, outdoor white balance, ISO 100, centre frame meter, no tripod, and a lensmate with UV filter. In post pro (DPP) I added some contrast, sharpness, and saturation.

I would enjoy hearing if there are ways I could of made this shot better...or is it already good considering the tools I had?

You can try different view points and/or framing. This sample is more on symmetry and less dynamic.

The Pros: A very good use of leading lines and the patterns of the of the structure.

The Cons: None that a really glaring

Some suggestions: The sky is completely blanked out which is a common issue that all Digital Photographers have to deal with, I would recommend that you shoot using AEB (Auto-Exposure Bracketing) which might offer you a few options to get some detail in the sky.

I would also recommend shooting from a lower angle. You appear to have shot from a standing positions (or semi-crouched). A lower angle will give you a whole different feel.

This is an ideal image for a wide angle lens. (I shoot with a 10-20mm Sigma, and would recommend such a lens for this sort of a composition).

Also - consider processing in High Dynamic Range (there are scores of tutorials out there, and I have one of my own on my website Broadening your range: How to create High Dynamic Range (HDR) images from a single exposure).

Composition is kind of like a teeter-totter; when everything is in balance it isn't fun any more. In many ways we all crave symmetry, and yet when we see perfect symmetry in a phtograph it tends to look, well... boring. This shot has a lot going for it, the many texutres, the interesting shapes, and some rather terrific color contrast, but it is just a hair too symmetrical and balanced. We are humans and none of us is perfectly balanced. We don't really like our images to be too balanced either.
