I'm not an expert but just over a week ago I went to see a remarkable exhibition by Simon Roberts, a British photographer, called "We English" (We English by photographer Simon Roberts). (It's at the National Media Museum in Bradford, England, and is well worth a visit if you're in the area -- although if you live in Texas I guess that's unlikely!). His work explores the relationship between the landscape and the way (English) people use it for leisure -- which is pretty close to what you seem to be doing here.
So is your picture too busy? No, I don't think so; in fact, I might even say it could be a little busier, so we could see an even greater range of ways in which people use the beach to relax. I'm not really qualified to talk about the colour but to my untrained eye it does seem a shame there's not more contrast in the sky... Hope this helps! |

Sky is a bit too dull but takes large part of the picture area, and some limbs appear cut (as well as the person to the right). Perhaps you should have aimed a bit lower when taking that pic. But I found a good composition idea (personal opinion of course), which I share below.
