Default Harbor landscape

Hello everyone,

A brief introduction: I'm new to this forum and this is my first critique request. I hope to learn a lot from here and I wish I can help others as well by giving my honest opinion on their pictures.

Harbour

If you think this picture could be improved, I'd be thankful to have some feedback, especially (but not only) regarding:

* Temperature / Color
* Composition

The EXIF:

Camera: K20D
Lens: Sigma 17-70
Focal Length: 26mm
Focus Mode: AFS Centered
Aperture: f/8
Shutter Speed: 1/3000
Metering: Matrix
ISO: 800

Thanks in advance!

This is a pretty cool picture. As far as composition goes, I think the two larger boats seem a little too close to the left edge. I'm not sure if you were cropping out a distraction over there though. It would also be nice to see a little more sky, but I like the foreground beach and reflections. The color looks fine to me. Nice picture, looks like a lovely place.

Hello

I'm a newcomer too but I agree with our friend from Arlington 100%. Whilst I know rules are made to be broken, as a newbie I find myself thinking "rule of thirds" when composing, and in a landscape sort of situation like this the "rule of thirds" often comes down to a decision as to whether to have two-thirds sky/one-third the rest or one-third sky/two-thirds the rest. Here I might have gone for the former myself -- the clouds look interesting and might have given better symmetry with their reflection.

Just my 2 cents though -- like DGreenawald says, it's a pretty cool picture overall.

I skewed and cropped the image because the foreground isn't that interesting. Next, I use the 'Rule of the thirds' as a guide to arrange various elements of your capture.

Sample for illustration purpose only.

Thanks for your time,

@Dgreenawald: the image isn't cropped - unfortunately - and therefore there's no spacing I could regain to the side. I now regret not having shot it at 17mm or so (even when perhaps the people left walking on the harbor distracted a bit), that would have given me more options to crop and compose.

@LoveDSLR: I like that composition of yours! hadn't thought of skewing the image... looks to me like as if you've added some saturation as well?
