Default Thoughts?

What do you think of the composition and the picture in general? Can you point out any technical problems that I could have dealt with in camera or with post processing? I'm really new at this and I don't have that trained eye.

The end of the log presents a huge, somewhat boring target for the eyes. Based on the lighting and placement, I think it's safe to assume you wanted the shoe to be the dominant element in the frame, but the end of the log is big and sharp. I'm not super keen on the tilted frame, but some people like it.

Regardless, I think you need to rethink the composition. Try to minimize the log. A larger aperture might help you with that too.

P.S. why is there a shoe on a log?

The color, exposure and details of the log are not complementing the shoe. Thus, you may have to consider using DOF to put the shoe as the sole focal point of your capture.

The sample (for illustration purposes) below shows darkening and lower contrasts to give the shoe more emphasis.

Hi tish_lily,

This is a really interesting image. It took me a couple of seconds to figure out what I was looking at. I agree with jdepould, that the end of the log really stands out. Because when I first looked at the image, I didn't even notice the shoe.

But the more I look at this image, the more I like it. There is something wonderfully quirky about it. As I sit here looking at it, I find that I keep turning my head, so that I see the image is in different orientations. I think that I like it the best with it rotated so that the log and the shoe are pointing down.

I can't stop looking at it.It's really caught my attention.

Hello,

I assume you want the shoe to be the primary point of attention, but I find the log disputes that, because of its brightness and the depth of field (I'd try with a larger aperture so the end of the log is no longer sharp, leaving just the shoe sharp)...

One last thing, perhaps making the log be a diagonal line (shooting from a different angle), could make it direct even more attention to the shoe.

Greetings
