This was my first time taking a picture of the moon it just looked perfedt through my eye but I am wondering is it supposed to look like this or is there a better way to not blow out the moon? Thank you.

your word is underexpose! =P don't just use the auto mode, you have an SLR, so either use the exposure compensation setting to lower the exposure by one or more points, or use the manual mode if you are comfortable enough with it. Another thing you can use is spot metering, so your light readings will be more accurate...

I also see that you used Photoshop elements to edit it... I think the heavy vignette does not add to the picture... a better option would be cropping in my opinion

two more things... lower your ISO speed as much as you can and use a tripod!

I hope it helped... Thanks for sharing!

First of all.. welcome...

secondly... please read Critique Forum Rules

then...
now.. about the moon...
the clouds look great, but yes your moon is blown out,... i am wondering how much, or what editing did you do, as you titled "moon edited"

also, i pulled your exif and posted here :
Exposure: 0.077 sec (1/13)
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length: 250 mm
ISO Speed: 400
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: On, Fired

I dont think it matters, but you should have turned the flash off... and in my few moon shots ive noticed that ive had to step down a few steps to make the detail there, other than i would get what you have
also, your aperture over 9 is at least as i've found...

trust me .. its taken ALOT of trials and wasted shots... but at least its digital now!

keep shooting!

thanks for sharing!

Try and start with iso 160; F 11 and speed of 1/250....see what works for you
