Default Gummer's How

Gummer's How is a hill at the south end of Lake Windermere (in the UK). There's a steep, rocky path to the top, but getting up there isn't too strenuous, and if you make it you'll be rewarded with panoramic views of much of the Lake District.

We climbed it yesterday with our two kids (5 and 7), and on the way up I turned round and took this picture of the southern tip of Lake Windermere:
Gummer's How 2

This is SOOC -- I don't have much post-processing software at my disposal (iPhoto '08 -- that's all!). However I would appreciate feedback about the light; it feels too dark overall to me, although I suspect the contrast is probably a strength of the photo...

Exposure: 0.0025 sec (1/400)

I really like this ..it is a little dark, but I just assumed that that was as a result of the weather on the day. I like the fact that it gives the photo a moody feel. Nice work.

Hi,
I like this a lot. It's the first one I've ever copied and played with. Sorry if you don't like what I've done, but I've added a graduated filter and messed about in Color Efex Pro. Feel free to tell me to leave your stuff alone.
Dave
PS I have Panasonic DMC FZ38

You have a nice view here. The photo looks a tad dark for my taste. The details in the foreground look dark.

Cheers!

Thanks for the compliment. The weather was rather dull but at least it didn't rain! I agree it gives a 'moody' feel but I must admit I prefer some of the later versions people have very kindly posted.

Thanks for playing with the pic! -- you're more than welcome to do anything you like to my pictures (perhaps I ought to include a line in my signature to reflect this). You've clearly got some better post-production software than me, and I really like the outcome -- although the sky looks a little too blue, perhaps, for my taste. (I'm learning that you can do a lot with skies in post-production).
Thanks again!
PS I used to work in the middle of Liverpool...

Thank you for the time and trouble you've taken to do this -- lightening things up the way you have has improved the shot considerably and has taught me how important post-production stuff is. I read on a photography blog recently that you don't take good pictures, you make good pictures -- although I suppose the RAW material has to have some potential too.

Thank you too for your work on my picture. The fact that three people have been able to improve my picture so significantly will, I'm sure, help convince my wife that we need to invest in some more serious post-production software (Aperture 3, probably) -- very useful!

Thanks for your comments. I agree the original is a little on the dark side but other people's tweaks have certainly improved it.
