Default Cloudy Sunset

Sunset Sky

This is a photo of a sunset over Beirut. I personally like the shape of the clouds overhead.

Nikon D5000
1/640s
f/13
ISO 200
18mm

What do you like/don't like about this photo? Do you think my composition is good? How do you like the colors?

Thank you

Wow, your name and copyright were floating right in the water? Awesome!

OK, snarky comment aside (yes, the copyright is annoying. You'll be OK without it, I promise.), your photo is very pleasing. Nice colors, interesting clouds. But, a lot of what I think is most interesting is de-emphasized here. For example, the distant clouds and trees near the horizon look very cool, but they're almost invisible. The reflections in the water is also nearly cut off. Recomposing a little closer, and a little farther down (to include the lake) might make this even more pleasing.

Those are my first impressions. Keep it up!

My first piece of advise is to take all my comments with a grain of salt.

I think it's boring; no different than a gazillion other sunset photos. I like to see foreground elements that frame the subject and add a sense of depth. There's no particular reason the sun should be centered; I'd rather see it off to one side.

I also like the shape of the clouds and the colour, but I agree that it would be a more powerful shot if you could see more of the reflection and have something silhouetted in the foreground to give more interest. That said, it's a very nice picture.

Thanks everyone,
Just wanted to tell you dcclark that it's not a lake it's the Mediterranean Sea, and those aren't trees next to the horizon they are buildings of the city Beirut.

I like this shot, I think the expanse of sky works well but maybe the angle should be moved down just a bit to add more water, so the sky stops at the top of the clouds.
I think this is the kind of shot that has to be viewed large.
