Personally, I say "Woow!" this is a great picture.

To follow the rules, please post the EXIF info also... and take care at the size of the posted image (try to import the image at a smaller scale, not only to follow rules but so we can see it better, myself I could not see it entirely on my screen - here are the rules and how to import files
Critique Forum Rules)

It may help if you cut a bit from the black bottom - it kinda attracts the eye - but that is just a beginner point of view.

Nevertheless, great photo, I like it very much.

Very nice capture!

Here's a crop for your consideration.

Stupid question for LoveDSLR, regarding the crop suggested: are there some general rules regarding the usage and positioning of diagonals in a picture? I refer to the lines drawn it the crop proposed by you.

And a side question: is there any simple technique/software to help in applying the rule of thirds to a photo? I refer to, for example, a grid (in Photoshop or other software) or directly in camera (maybe my D5000 has something for that but I'm not aware of)... this would be helpful as for a beginner like me is not yet obvious by just looking at a picture. Thanks and sorry if this sounds silly... but we are here to learn

Not with this one. I just want to make it a balanced image and it is easier to communicate visually than talk/write about it.

I really like that shot! I like how the trees in the back are almost hugging the sun - perfectly positioned.
The only thing that is distracting me is the vapor trail cutting across the top, though if you waited for it to disappear the sun might be too much lower, and the reflection might be cut by the branches..

I love the shot and agree that sun is blown out. The fog and composition is great in my oppinion

In regards to the line in the sky if you do have photoshop a quick "healing brush" would probably work just fine for this.

all in all i very like the picture. if this is one of your first pictures i look foreward to seeing more. Thanks for sharing.
