Default Missed the Assignment Deadline "By This Much!"

Well, this is the second time it's happened. I made plans to get a shot to enter into the "Assignments Commute" thread but I misread the deadline. However, I'd like to hear what others think, too.

This is exactly the shot I was looking for and (to me) conveys a certain aspect of the morning commute. I'd rather not elaborate on that last part just yet because I want to know what you think. Also feel free to critique any other aspect of the picture... exposure, composition, etc. What would you have done differently? (Critiques on the fact I missed another deadline aren't necessary... warranted but not necessary.

Not sure what you where trying to accomplish on that shot, ghosts at a subway? Doesn't work for me. However not being familiar with subways I would have preferred the shot with just the speedy train zooming by.

Then you might want to have a look at the other pictures on my Flickr page.

I think ur photo titled Commute 04 would have been a better entry for the assignment. Although i would like to know how u made the humans look ghostly in this post.

The ghostly effect is all about the exposure length. I had initially been doing 30 second exposures (as in the Commute04 picture) but the people weren't showing up. I finally figured out why... because they were only in the image for a fraction of the total length of exposure. Once I shortened the exposure (and altered when I started the exposure) they actually showed up to the degree I wanted. Thanks for looking and commenting.

Well, I can't call this a complete failure but I had hoped that someone might pick up on what I was "going for" with this image.

Basically, I was trying to convey two things. One, the "hustle and bustle" of the morning commute (blurred motion of the subway and people). And two, the feeling of "barely there" (ghostly people) when one gets up very early to go to work.

Thanks again to those that looked and commented.

Funny thing,

I had in mind the same idea for this assignment, but did not made it in time, so I postponed the experiment. I like tho photo, but I think that a bit faster shutter speed would give a little more substance to the people and retaining the idea of rush - at least this is just my thought, I'll have to experiment it myself to know for sure.

Another experiment that I thought of for the same kind of shots is to capture someone standing perfectly still during the time of the shot, thus contrasting with the moving crowd and giving a bit of drama to the image. Hope that one day will have the time and mood to go out and experiment all these, I only tried a few shots on a busy shopping street in a winter evening.

I like also the other shots, but I agree with you, this fits better with the "Commute" idea.
