Question Solitude

It was a cold winter day, and I needed to get out. Bring my camera I thought I might be able to express my mood that day.

Strength Alone

How do you feel about the composition and about the white snow and the white sky. This was a true color, it was cold slightly foggy and no sunshine at all.

Love to hear you feedback.

I like it! It conveys the feeling of lonliness or solitude, of an individual. Yet the individual has strong character to stand alone and not die.

This is a tough call and I am going to throw it back to you; do you think this expresses your feelings of solitude at the time?
According to the rule of thirds you have placed this tree about where you should for a good composition, but we really don't want to play by the rules here; we want to express an emotion. So where is the best place to place the tree to express solitude? A better question may be how much of the frame should the tree occupy? Would the tree look more lonely if were a smaller part of the overall composition?
Take a look at the thread currently running on minimalism and see how some others have handled this kind of thing. I suspect you will be inspired to try more of this kind of thing.

Its a very Hallmark card type photo and that I say as a compliment. You can happily print this along with the literature and present to a friend who might have just suffered a loss.
To me this has the gloom of solitude written all over it with the hope of the continuity of life.

Cheers!

I like the minimalist approach in this photo. Simple yet very effective in conveying the feeling of solitude. Great work!

Cheers!

Great capture ....I feel the lack of color enforces the emotion being portrayed. Feedback by LeeR is thought provoking....makes you think more along the lines of evoking the emotion thru the photo...maybe a wide-angle perspective (if nothing else was nearby) would have added to the solitary-ness?!

Love the photo as presented...as said by other posters...Great Work!!

Thumbs up

Thanks for all the comments.

LeeR: your questions are definitely thought provoking and made me think that I might do it differently next time. Maybe the tree should have been more alone/smaller. I can't seem to find the thread that you mentioned minimalism. I will keep looking.

Thanks abhijnanm never thought of a sympathy card but I think you might be right.

Abhi I don't have a wide-angle lens but I think your idea is great. Maybe one day I will be able to try that too =)

Thanks everyone, you made me think and I appreciate your time.
