Default Tai O Shanty Town

Took this shot in Tai O, Lantau (Island located around HK). Do you guys think that the green wrecked boat in the foreground is dominating too much of the photo? Is there enough detail shown in the stilt houses in the background?

Tai O Shanty Town

Exif data:
Camera: Canon EOS 40D
Exposure: 1/2500 sec
Aperture: f/4.0
Focal Length: 24 mm
ISO Speed: 400
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Off, Did not fire

Thanks for looking!

The boat in the foreground doesn't look dominating in my opinion. As to the details of the houses, it still looks okay to me. One thing that really distracts me though is the totally blown out sky. Just my two cents.

Cheers!

Any suggestions on how i can improve on the sky? The weather was not that great on the day I took this photo . .not many clouds...very dull and grey . .

Thanks!

Take a second underexposed image and the put that sky onto the above image in PP is one. Or if the sky is boring/dull just take it out of your picture. Crop it out or shoot with less of it in the first place.

On looking at your exif data couple things I would change. If you're wanting to make sure you capture details in the background (the stilt houses) you should be shooting stopped down more than f/4. Try around f/11 if you're wanting to get the deep DOF. Also with the iso at 400 and the shutter speed 1/2500 why not bring your iso down to 100 for cleaner image which will still give you a shutter speed way more than what you'd need to shoot this photo; probably around 1/400 I would think would be the result. You'll still have enough to eliminate any kind of camera shake at that focal length and the picture will be cleaner and color-rich (even though iso 1-400 isn't a HUGE difference it is a difference nonetheless).

Looks good though. I'd love to go to HK one day too
