Default Toning down bright spot

Having fun with OOBs and still learning Photoshop CS4. How do I tone down just the bright sun reflection above and to the right of the dock, without losing the reflection on the underside of the bow of the boat? I've tried with Select\Color Range and lost an hour of my life with little to show in understanding.

Any other suggestions?

I did a selection tool across the whole top then darkened it a bit.

Appreciate it. Could you walk a rookie Photoshopper through the steps of selection and darkening?

On the left you will see a set of tools. There is quite a few ways to select but i used the magic wand. Just choose it and drag it over the part of the sky that you want. If it selects things you don't want selected look up top left and you will see 3 magic wands, choose the wand with the minus symbol and push your selection into where you want it then go to Image, adjustments and choose brightness/contrast. Once you get it the way you want go to Select and deselect...

Thanks. Gotten it somewhat better, but still not happy with it. Photography and perfectionist tendencies don't mix well.
