Default Beirut: Martyrs' Square

Beirut: Martyrs' Square

This is Martyrs' Square. It's name Martyrs' Square was derived from the hanging of many Lebanese nationalists on May 6, 1916 by the Ottoman Turks as a result from a revolt. This photograph was an overall success although sun flare gave me a huge red spot on the statue itself.

Nikon D5000
18mm
1/800s
f/14
ISO 200

How do you like my composition?
How do you like my angle?
How do you like my colors?
Do you think the red spot on the statue ruins this shot?

Thanks

I like the composition and the angle, it makes the shot quite interesting. Colours are good, and not over saturated.

I do think the red spot ruins the shot.... its in such a critical place, and its unfortunate.

Aside from the red spot the only other comment would be that the silouette has a little too much detail in it, my eyes struggle to work out whats in the shadows. My suggestion would be that either you need to bring out the detail a little more, or silouette it completely.

the red spot is really at a very bad place. What metering did you use for the shot.I think a little more underexposed should have given you a better silhouette and taken care sun flares

I wasn't really aiming to take a silhouette. I was mainly trying to get a balanced shot. Anyway, thanks for all the feedback, I'll definitely consider your suggestions.

Hi H.S.,

I think that this is a nice image. In answer to your questions:

How do you like my composition?

I think it is balanced and works well.

How do you like my angle?

It is very dramatic.

How do you like my colors?

There isn't really a lot of color in this image, but for what it is, I think it works.

Do you think the red spot on the statue ruins this shot?

Yes I do. Why don't you try cloning it out? The white flare in the sky will be easy to get rid of. The red ring will be a challenge, but I think you can do it. At the very least, you can make it more subtle so that it isn't the focus of the image. Right now, my eye is drawn right to it.

I hope that helps!
