For me the face is too dark and lacks detail. You can lighten it up by using adjustment layers or create a duplicate layer and change the blend mode to screen. play with the opacity levels until you get somthing you like. Erase areas that you dont want to be so bright

I think what she meant, was to make a duplicate layer..............set the dup. layer blend mode to screen setting. When you do this the whole photo will get brighter. Next, add a layer mask to the dup. layer and set it to full white.(white mask will allow everything to show through, and black will hide) Now all you have to do is paint with black on the mask and it will erase the areas you don't want to brighten.
