Default Monument to the Unknown Soldier, Sofia

This is the monument of the Unknown Soldier at Sofia.

Larger pic can be seen in my blog or you can just click the pic.

I would like to get some feed back about the composition mainly. Do you think that the shot is right like that?

I'm not a fan of these tilted shots and have only seen a very few that I do like. If I find myself tilting my head to view the photo, it doesn't work for me. Especially if there are words to read. That's just my opinion.

I think that the tilting has made the words very quite to read. I think the composition idea is great with the rose at the bottom, but I think there is just a bit too much tilt.

I also think that the overall image is quite dark, maybe just adjustments can be done to make the image more dramatic.

Hmm. The idea was to be able to show the rose, the eternal flame and the text. And I did not want to move the rose, just let it be there. That is the reason why I choose that composition.

I appreciate your effort in finding a difference perspective when you shot this. However, it didn't work for me. This would probably appear better if there were no words ought to be read. Kind of pain in the neck, at least for me.

Cheers!

I think the rose acts as a good lead in, but the first thing i did when i saw this photo, is tilt my head to try and read the words.

Hmm, it seems that the general opinion here is that it does not work. What about a crop that would remove most of the writing? Do you think that it will work better?

Remember that the angle you choose should be chosen based on the composition, not on the desire to try a technique. I like your elements in the photo but I also agree the angle doesn't work here. A better comp might be to keep it level, zoom in on the rose so it is more prominent...with the stone words behind it. This will let the viewer see the rose first. Then they will move on to the words behind it and make the connection between the two. It will flow and accomplish the defining of your subject and it's context.

Hope that helps!

You may be right, I know I like it better this way but I guess I am part of a minority.
