Default Vespa in Cape Town

Vespa

This is one of my first pictures taken when I got my D3000 that I liked, would like your thoughts on composition and exposure, as well as any tips for post processing.

Taken with a Nikon D3000, at F4.2 using ISO 100 and shutter speed of 1/200 sec.

this is a really interesting photo for me; i particularly like the character of the tiled wall just behind the motorbike. i would like to see a crop that takes out all the junk above the wall. also, i viewed your larger size and the overall image seems a little soft. i would sharpen that up a bit pp. otherwise, great job! the color of the bike really pops against the tiled wall and sidewalk. i even like the blown out corner in the the bottom right.

here's a quick and dirty edit; of course, i'm new to photography so take my suggestions lightly!

It's an interesting subject but the the stuff above the wall and the blown out corner are a bit distracting so you could try to remove them.

Composition wise, you could try a front on & low down so you just get the bike & wall.

Default here's a thought...

Cool photo! I like the contrast of the red with the dull tones around it.

Next time you're taking something like this, try using your own shadow, or even asking someone else, to help fill in a really bright spot like that in the bottom right.

Depends on the angle and such, of course, and there might be nobody around etc, haha. But it might be fun, and it might look really cool, too.

If you were really determined to try it, using a timer, you could even put the camera down or use a tripod and go stand off to one side and cast a shadow yourself, but probably not a good idea on a busy sidewalk, but either way, something to think about! Your body can be a tool as well as a platform.

*edit* I should add that I don't think the bright corner is a bad thing; my comment stems from the fact that somebody else commented on it.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll keep that in mind and try a few different crops with the pic.

really interesting shot. I like the colors and their contrast...

Not sure, wheter it works out well. But you could have tried to softbox flash the scene.

Cheap softbox alternative would be a small inflated white plastic bag put over your flash.
