Default Foggy Country Road

Lonely road

I took this a few miles outside the city limits of the small town I live in in the Texas panhandle. I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for this type of photograph.

The colors, tweaked slightly in Lightroom, are pretty true to life. The scene was pretty but almost monochrome due to the fog as well as the somewhat drab landscape. However, I feel like something is missing.

I was trying to play with lines receding into the distance with the road itself and the fence line to the right, but it seems like the angle of the fence is a little too vertical. I like this photo, but I don't love it.

Any thoughts as to color saturation/desaturation or composition?

*edit* Bluh, forgot EXIF data. Full manual mode, might have autofocused but pretty sure I just focused infinity.

My two cents.

Since the photo is titled 'Foggy Country Road', I skewed and cropped the photo to gain three leading lines and a sense of balance in composition.

Nice picture!
I tried a couple of alternate crops.

First a 4x6;

But I believe this photo warrants a free crop!

These are hosted at Photobucket credited to you, let me know if you want me to take them down.

I like the smaller sky in the second one, but think I should have left more of the fence like in the first. I just was worried it would look too cropped... I should try another

Default thanks!

Silly of me not to think of just a simple crop...rule of thirds! The crops look a lot cooler, I think I just had too much sky; the original is more "half and half". I might start turning on my "grid" on the LCD for landscapes.

The "skew" is also interesting. I might play around with a combination of what both of you have done here. What you did with the skewing shows me that I could have "scooted over" to the left a bit to get the lines more symmetrical (not that they have to be, but that's what I was trying to achieve).

Thanks for the edits! What I can see for myself is infinitely more helpful for me than trying to picture it in my head. Feel free to leave them up as long as you like so other people can see what you did.

I can definitely learn from this.
