Relative newby to DSLR, having moved up from point-n-shoot recently. I realize this is challenging lighting with the snow and clear, sunny day. Why am I getting the blue tinge around the sides of this picture?
![]() No post processing done (to this version), although I have a version with the brown "stuff" removed from the snow. EXIF here Last edited by looking4OPH; 02-20-2010 at 04:50 PM. |

...shooting wide on many lenses will cause this vignetting problem. Was it your kit lens?

We're unable to veiw the EXIF due to the privacy settings.
Not sure if you used a filter, but a polarization filter may helped with the tinge. Looks like a white balance problem, common problem when the camera is focused on snow. An asided, I have an a330 as well and replaced the kit lens with a Tamron 17-50mm. Huge improvement in that focal length range.

I would say it is a combination of both of the answers given already. Darkening at the edges of the frame is vignetting, and it appears more blue probably due to white balance setting. Check out your user manual for how to set custom white balance.

Keep in mind that areas of your image that are not in direct sunlight are being lit by what? The sky. And what color is the sky? Yep, you guessed it.
True, I think you may have a white balance problem here as well, but even if you correct that you may still find some influence from skylight.

I, too, have been playing around with not having the blue snow phenomenon, or minimising it, unless I choose to impart the mood...
This page shows automatic white balance AWB and manual settings This page relates using Exposure Value settings as well Random experiments Using photoshop to fix it all!!! |
