Default sparklin' snow

Happy valentines day, everyone.

I'm looking for some feedback on a photograph that I took this morning. I awoke to the bright sun creating some great shadows and reflections in the snow. In order to pick up the sparkles I had to venture in to fully manual mode for the first time - very proud of myself for that. But I'm just not sure if I succeeded with this shot from composition to exposure...

Any and all thoughts are so very welcome. Thanks!

You got the sparkles!

Beautiful shot!
The snow seems a little gray, but I am not sure how the sparkles would show up if it was white.
Hopefully someone with more experience will chime in.
I would play with the white balance, set a white point and see what happens. Do you have any editing software?

I tried setting a white point in Nikon NX2, I think it looks pretty good, may I post it?
I post to Photobucket, with credit to you and link here to provide a full size 740px long side photo on site.

Thanks Doc.

I have PSE8, but didn't apply many adjustments to the shot originally because I didn't want to interfere with the sparkles. But again, it is a bit gray.

Here's a color corrected version - please feel free to give it a try yourself!

All I did was set a White Point in NX2 and drag it around until there was the most minimal blowout.

I think there should be some highlights and dark places in any photo, just like life!

Well done. Thanks for encouraging me to be more bold with my corrections/adjustments. My fear is that I'll over-work the photos...a line to walk I guess.
