Default Sunny Ice Fog

Just had to pull over and take this picture and am not sure what to do in terms of enhancing it. I would like to have some suggestions as to how I could have improved composition, and what I can do to make the image better in terms of PP. Appreciate your guidance and thank you for looking.

Winter Wonderland
Exposure: 1/500
Aperture: f/11.0
Focal Length: 50.4 mm
ISO Speed: 800

You could possibly play around with the crop, IMO it would look good as an 8x10 ratio portrait crop, but other than that I would leave it alone. It's beautiful!

Agree with the crop, to much sky..maybe add a bit of contrast..maybe
I played around with it a bit, cropped to 8x10 and added some contrast..

I kind of like the overall greyness of it -- that says "fog" to me.

However, you might try a light curves adjustment to bring up the contrast in the trees a little bit -- just a little. For example, the darker trees might pop out a bit more, emphasizing the snow (and fog) on the other trees.

Also, any particular reason why you were at ISO 800? That almost certainly degraded your image quality (and added noise). Clearly there was enough light, because you were at f/11 and 1/500 sec shutter speed -- MUCH faster than you really needed.

Thank you for your suggestions. I will play around with the crop and contrast like digirebelva did and see what I end up with.

dcclark - No particular reason I was at ISO 800. I am still trying to get a handle on manual operation and had my camera on Shutter Priority for this one. Aperture was picked automatically by the camera, but I may have had the ISO set from a previous picture I took. Still learning So from what you said, I could have dropped the ISO and the shutter speed and resulted in a better shot. Will keep that in mind.

Thanks.

The rule of thumb is to use the lowest ISO that you can use, to get the shutter speed/ aperture that you want. The only time you need to up the ISO is under low light conditions where you want a faster shutter speed than otherwise available. The problem with higher ISO is that it introduces noise.

I think the crop works. Maybe, as suggested, it could do with a tiny curves adjustment but the light is beautiful so please , please don't mess it up with over saturation.

Might try a crop in a landscape orientation as well.
