This shot was taken walking around the streets of Vegas. Just wondering about the composition, lighting. I was lucky to get the rollercoaster car in the shot, that was by chance.
I was shooting with
Nikon D80
Manfrotto 190 CXPRO4 tripod
1/125 shutter speed
f/18 aperture
125 ISO
No flash

The composition is a little cluttered as the background is quite busy. If you had used a smaller aperture you could have kept only the statue in focus to remove some of the clutter but had some definition in the buildings to give it some context.

I didn't even notice the rollercoaster so that is inconsequential when displayed this small. Might be worth it if you printed this out really big though.

The light is the main problem in this shot though. Most of the statue including the face and the part of the plinth that is in shot is in shadow and therefore doesn't draw the viewers attention. The is made worse by the bight background in sunlight. The only way to fix this would be to shoot at another time of the day with the light at your back. (Unless you have a very very powerfull flash for fill!)

I agree with the business, but do see where you were going with it.

I dont like the lighting either... just seems dark.

I do like the sky though, nice color there!

Using an aperture that would isolate the subject would have definitely helped as the buildings in the background are getting the share of the viewer's attention and as such can be distracting. The subject itself is the statue but there are a lot of dark areas in it. Overall, it just look like a snapshot.

Cheers!
