Hello and welcome to DPS,
I looked at your photostream and there are a few very nice photos, i really love the shot with the sunset. and it is true that the lady is hot..... For this picture, It is quite abstract and i do not know what exactly the subject is. We see a bit of a reflection of a neon sign but is it enought to make it the main subject. I don't know.

Thank you! The sign is my subject, I really liked how the black rear of the sign turned an everyday object into something abstract. I also really like the intense colors of the neon, I always like reflections and the loneliness of looking out a window...
I can see how you could be wondering what the point of the photo is though. This is exactly what I was wondering when choosing that photo for posting. I love the sunset photo also, but it's so easy... I wanted to comment on your photos stream over at fliker, but I hate Yahoo too much to register, lol. Someday maybe! I really like "Tunnel Effect" but I wish I could see the whole post on the right... Thank you so much for your criticism , I will work on making sure I have a strong subject! If you have the time and inclination, I would love your comments regarding the other pics over at Photobucket!

OK, take this with a grain of salt because I've only been at this for about a year. I wanted to comment because learning how to critique other images will make me better at self critique. I also like your wife's banter with you.
I like the shot but think that it's overwhelmed by the black back of the sign. The reflection is really cool and I think you could have a great shot with some cropping. I checked out your sunset shot and really like that one too...I'll take a stab at commenting in Photobucket. Welcome to dPS, happy shooting! |

I get the abstract part of it, but I think that since it was taken in daylight, it is causing the black of the sign to be more powerful then the reflections.
If possible can you retake this shot at night? The neon reflecting in the glass then may be enough to draw the eye away from the black frame as a focal point and instead lend it to be more of a glancing look. just my often sought after advice, though usually sought only by myself.

ZannieGirl49;
Thank you for your input! Yeah, I think if I did some processing I may be able to lighten it and brighten the colors some, so the black wouldn't be so oppressive, while still having the contrast between the silhouette and the glow of the neon. It looks like I am going to need a fliker account after all just to comment on your and barabe's streams! I would consider it a great favor to see what you can point out that I may be doing wrong over at Photobucket!

Dennismc;
Yeah, thats a great idea! I always was kind of lukewarm on the view outside! I'll try that next time I go to Taco Loco in the evening! That might help with the intensity of the color I was going for, I had to go with a short exposure to get it as dark as I wanted it, and that did not help with the neon glow! The other shot of this sign over at Photobucket is way too dark for the same reason...
