Hello and welcome to DPS,

I think you are on a good start. This shot is very nice but i would rotate it a bit so the horizon is straight. You might want to have the horizon at an angle for creative reasons but it has to show that it is on purpose like 30 degrees or more.

I cant wait to see more of your work.

Hello limberger!

I think you have a very good start here, I like how rock stands out from horizon. As barabe already mentioned horizon should be straight. I would also add that you could drop horizon to 1/3 or even a bit lower to make rock stand out a bit more. And you have nice clouds in sky so it's not dull, maybe just a bit more contrast in clouds (polariser would work nicely if you have one, or just make more contrast in post production).

Keep on shooting, I'd love to see more.

Thanks guys. I will remember to make some minor adjustments to my shots. So far I have progressed to shooting in RAW, and just developing with default settings in Lightroom. Need to work out how to use the software first

Beautiful, I am with the others on this. One more thing you may want to note, is distortion caused by being wide open with a wide angle lens. Not always a bad thing, though I try to avoid it by dialing in just a fraction. On my Nikon 18-55vr that helps a lot.
Although I see you are at 17mm with very little noticable distortion. It makes me wonder what lens you were using?
