This is my first post, so please forgive me if I've done something wrong. I'm very new to photography, and I'm anxious to learn all I can to improve my photographs. This is one of my favorite pictures that I've taken, so I was hoping to get a little feedback on it. What do you think?

I think its a very nice shot. I like both the subject and the overall composition. If it were me, the only things I would have done differently would be to move a little closer to the doorway to get less of the wall in the picture (leave the picture framed by the doorway but show more of the beautiful background) and the sky looks a little overexposed. Good job!

Thanks so much for your input! Now that I look at it, I agree, the sky does look overexposed. I took this picture on the auto settings of my Canon Rebel XS, but I'm reading up on this website to learn how to adjust the ISO and Aperture. How could I have kept from overexposing the sky?

I must say you have a creative way of presenting things basing from this image. It would look better perhaps if you have cropped out a small portion of the wall at the right part to make it look tighter.

Cheers!

Using a frame like this doorway often adds a sense of drama to an image and is a useful tool in every photographer's bag of tricks. However, there is an unwritten responsibility here; that if you frame it, it had better be worthy of the extra attention. The composition inside the frame you have created is OK, but not stellar. We need something more. Could moving a bit to the right or left have improved the image? Would waiting for a boat or birds to pass by have made a difference? I can only speculate. Waiting for exactly the right moment and positioning for maximum effect are often the best tools of all.
