Default Kodak Z612 - help with blur

My husband recently got a Z612 (he really loves the 12x optical zoom) but when he used it at my brother's wedding quite a few shots came out blurry.
He also used my Canon 300D DSLR and didn't seem to have the same blurriness problem.
I was wondering if anyone had any advice on which settings to use or anything at all on how to reduce the blur.

(I already know using a tripod would have helped, but that really wasn't an option and he didn't use a tripod with the 300D either and got less blur.)
He is pretty new to this camera and has been reading the manual, but anyone with other experience may be helpful.

I believe when he took the pictures it was in Manual mode...but I can't be certain.

I don't know the camera but I do know that blurriness can be caused by two things:

1. You accidently focused on something else - that may be visible in the shot but can be difficult to spot.

2. You moved the camera while the shot was being taken.

Blur #1 is to do with distance from a focal point and gets more pronounced with things that are too far or near. Blur #2 will affect everything in the frame and is often directional (eg. you moved the camera down a fraction) rather than evenly distributed. I suppose you could break out another category, when the camera is solid and focus is in the right place but the subject moves.

Have you got any samples you can post? It might be possible to make a better judgement seeing some of the "damage".

If you post some examples, as Wulf suggests, try to include the exif info if you can.
