Beautiful picture. I too take pictures of horses, mainly 3 day eventing and the light is usually very harsh - I am in Australia. So when it is a grey coming I have a sigh of relief. The detail on the greys is so clear rather than on a bay or black. Good luck.

I used to frequently shoot the NYC carriage horses. I found that I got the best results on overcast/cloudy days or when I shot in a shady location. Direct sun/light reflects off of the black hair and you lose all of the detail. It also caused shadows on the horse's eye because they wear blinders.
