Thanks for the great guide, but like others I don't think I have the time nor equipment to try this just yet!
I actually prefer the second shot you posted, but I think the first one worked better for the sound assignment, it looks a little bit like an LED equaliser!

Just to clarify, did you put the paint directly on the balloon? If so was the balloon shiney enough to give you that reflection or did you use some other technique? Such an amazing shot! Makes me want to take up speed photography :-)
