Lightbulb Halloween Tangerine

Halloween Tangerine

Camera: Canon EOS 1000D
Lens: 18-55mm kit lens
Exposure: 1/100 sec
Aperture: f/22
Focal Length: 55 mm
ISO Speed: 400

The setup:
First cut out a small hole (between 0,5 and 1 cm in diameter) in a piece of cardboard and tape it to flash head tightly so there are no light leaks except through the hole. Then place the flash flat on the table, so that it points up, and overlay it with a big piece of white paper. Put a pealed tangerine or orange so that it covers the hole on the cardboard underneath the paper. You can put some books or something besides the flash too keep the paper surface straight.

The shooting:

Firstly you have to be able to use the flash off camera, so you’ll need a cable or wireless system for triggering the flash. You have to play a little with output power of the flash and the camera settings to get what you want. The room must be dark if you want everything except the tangerine to be black. And of course use a tripod and remote shutter cable release if you can.

MS paint diagram :

That’s it! Hope you like it!

It's a great shot. The effort that you put in to explain the setup deserves appreciation. Thanks!

I'll have to try this with different [transparent] fruits. Awesome outcome!

Very cool. Anotehr student in my photography class did something similar with an apple he hollowed out and stuck on a flashlight. the apple was light skinned, with dark spots and created a very interesting image.
