Post Lonely...

hi all,

the rose in the pic comes from my garden. thought of various angles and lighting modes to shoot it.. finally tried something different :

1. Switched off all the lights in the room
2. Lit an LED flashlight and pointed it towards the rose (kept in glass full of water)
3. the apparatus was placed on the kitchen shelf, which was made of black granite

Av 5.7
Tv 1/60
ISO 80
No flash

Comments and suggestions are most welcome !!

hmm....somehow...you without the title it would be quite difficult to make out the subject itself, its too dark and lacks clarity.
If you want a similar effect, try to have more light from the right hand side, thus, making your subject look much more clear and prominent.
In this photo, i can actually 3 things that COULD have been points of distraction as your rose clear enough. (emphasis on the word COULD)
1) The sharp reflecting ligh
2) The dark green leaves which to me doesn't properly seem as part of flower,
3) The reflection of the glass

If you can try NOT to eliminate those but STILL maintain the clarity of your MAIN subject, i.e. The Rose.

Hope this helps.

I like where your headed with this I think you have all the details and just need to distill them a bit. My suggestion would be to leave the stem longer and shoot the rose tighter so that there is only darkness and the rose . . . Maybe (if you are not already) use a tripod. I think this would give you just the rose against darkness could be very nice. Of cousre photography is quite personal and you need to take what you want from suggestions and throw the rest away ;-)

Thanks for sharing!

I feel the balance of the photo is off quite a bit. I assume the rose is meant to be the focal point so why is it up near the edge while the glass and it's reflection are centered? If it were me, I would put the rose in a slender vase and shoot it so that the flower itself is more clearly the subject. Also, don't forget the rule of thirds.

Thank u all for taking out time and providing some really elaborate suggestions.
i might have given a more appropriate heading to this one, as it seems(from the heading) that the rose should have got all the attention.
What i intended to do was to capture the whole assembly, the rose, the water bubbles, the glass and the reflection.
the pic depicts pretty much what i had set out to achieve.
i highly appreciate all u guys for paying attention and i will definitely try out the techniques u all took time to mention. hopefully, the results wud be a lot more obvious the next time
Thanks again !!!
