this is my first maternity shoot. i was so nervous doing these but am extreemly happy with the results. i got a ton more but these ones were the first i did a little pp to, and would love any feedback - positive or negative. only thing im not happy with is that i got more noise then i liked but for a first attempt at it, im quite satisfied - but thats just my opinion. im more interested in yours.
i took these with a backdrop set up infront of a large window and a little bit of extra light coming in on the side and towards the front. ![]() ![]()

That first one is GORGEOUS!!! I am doing a friend's maternity pictures soon and I am jealous! I wouldn't change a thing about the first one. The second one is nice but doesn't strike me as a maternity shot. Maybe it would have been nicer if her head was in it too looking over her shoulder maybe. The last one I would crop the part where it is around her neck, looks odd to me. I love your lighting!

I agree with mandyatm, the first one is very nice. You did a good job with the lighting and the butterfly was a nice touch.
The second doesn't do much for me, it doesn't strike me as much of a maternity shot and could have been just a regular budoir shot. The third one is a good "almost there" shot. It is a good, standard maternity pose--one of those "must-do" shots--but you cut her head off at the neck, which ends up looking weird. Also, this type of shot works best without the panties. The lace panties detract substantially from the shot as the patern clashes with the draped cloth and they overemphasize the larger form of the pregnant woman in an unflattering way. As a nude, the dangling cloth helps to soften the outline the woman in a pleasant way, showing she is pregnant without being overly obvious about it. This pose also looks great as a full-figure silhouette--with and without the draping cloth. Finally, I wouldn't worry about a little noise. It actually enhances most black and white shots. Embrace it and find ways to make it work for you creatively!

thanks guys for your input. i appreciate it
the second shot - i get what you mean that it doesnt strike you as a mat pose but i was going for some details in the shoot as well. give a little variety to the client. and as far as the last one - i think i have to crop out the neck part. i have full length ones too just didnt get around to tweaking them yet. and for the underwear part - the client wasnt 100% comfortable with going full nude so i had to compromise with her and thats what we got.

Great photos, I did my second one the other day and definately hit a brick wall, I love the idea of the butterfly in the first one.
